Here at UMI Arts, we’re all about supporting our artist members and keeping culture strong. So, we only stock authentic art and gift items made by our members.
Authentic tourism gifts are those items that can be attributed back to a local artist or craftsperson. This will probably be someone running a small family business making art products or it may be an Indigenous company. The benefits of purchasing authentic Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander gifts are that local First Nations families receive the income rather that it going to a non-Indigenous entity or offshore supplier. It keeps cultural traditions strong and stops the theft of Indigenous Cultural Intellectual Property.
Look for authentic products that display the Indigenous Art Code symbol and have a photo and biography about the artist maker.
