The Freshwater Saltwater exhibition is an annual group exhibition that draws work from passionate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artist members of UMI Arts. The title reflects a metaphorical ideology of mainland Aboriginal custodians mostly connected to ‘freshwater’ and Torres Strait Islanders who are surrounded by ‘saltwater’.
The theme of the exhibition, Moving Time, explores a shift in direction within the artist’s practice, direction and techniques. Moving Time reflects the current movement of the art created in Far North Queensland and features divers mediums that include fashion, jewellery, furniture and objects, printing, photographic installations, works on paper handcrafts, design and paintings.
